Sceirde Rocks team event on location in Carna

In September 14 members of Corio’s Sceirde Rocks project team met up in Galway for a team meeting and familiarisation trip to the west of Ireland.

After convening for a working lunch, the team spent the rest of the afternoon going through the project in detail, outlining the significant progress made since the project was acquired in October 2021 and planning future developments.

The next day the team headed west to Connemara where their first port of call was Ross a Mhil harbour. Here they met with the harbour master who gave a tour and insight into the harbour and the plans for its extension and future development.

After Ross a Mhil the team continued their journey west to Carna and stopped off at the Emigrants and Diaspora Centre where they were treated to an introduction to local history and archaeology.

The team went onto Moyrus beach and undertook a guided tour along the Luibín Mhaírois walking trail around to Mace Head. This was important for the wider project team to get an appreciation of the area where the project is located in.

The highlight of the walk and the trip was at the point of Mace Head where the Sceirde Rocks site was in full view and clear to see on such a fine day.
