Listening to the community
Since early 2022 our project team has engaged with a wide range of community groups and individuals in the Connemara area adjacent to the project. The main objective has been to inform community groups about the project and outline how the project will benefit the wider Connemara area and the opportunities it will provide to individuals, groups, and the community as a whole.
Another important aspect of our community engagement is to provide information and clarity to the public on any questions they may have about the project and its construction.
Examples of our activity include:
- Fishers engagement: In 2022 the project team and our fisheries liaison officer engaged with a wide range of fishers in the area to successfully complete our planned surveys. Our ongoing engagement with this group has continued and recently further surveys and site works were carried out as a result of consultation, cooperation and agreements between the local fishers and the project team.
- Community events such as:
- the announcement of our Community Benefit Fund in June 2023
- welcoming more than 50 national and local suppliers and businesses to our Business Supply Chain event in October 2023
- our Careers, Training and Skills Information event, attended by nearly one hundred local students in December 2023.
- Our four-day open consultation event in June 2024 that welcomed more than 150 people from a wide range of communities around Connemara and greater Galway area
Our dedicated Consent & Stakeholder manager, Michael Cloherty, comes from Carna and works from our project office in the village. Michael is available to share information and answer questions about the project at any time on:
